Labcal’s Fingerprint, Smart Card and PKI Solution for Logical Access Control Now Incorporates Identix’ Fingerprint Verification and Identification Algorithm

QUEBEC CITY, Quebec, May 15 /PRNewswire/ - Labcal Technologies Inc., a

company delivering authentication solutions based on Fingerprint, Public Key Cryptography and Smart Card Technologies, announced the integration of Identix(R) (Nasdaq:IDNX) BioEngine(R) fingerprint technology into Labcal’s SmartLogon for Windows(R), an alternative and more secure solution to the basic Windows logon authentication system. Designed specifically to respond to high customer demand in both commercial and government enterprises, this solution is Labcal’s first product to incorporate the Identix algorithm.

SmartLogon for Windows replaces the conventional user name and password with smart cards and fingerprint biometrics for maximum security. Labcal’s SmartPrint(TM) TruBlue(TM), a combined biometric (fingerprint) and smart card authentication reader that allows for 3-factor user-authentication to the operating system, can be used with many of the leading contact smart cards such as Java(TM) card Cyberflex(R) from Schlumberger and STARCOS(R) from Giesecke & Devrient. The user’s profile, including the Identix BioEngine(R) fingerprint template, is stored on the smart card for identity verification.

Labcal’s smart card and fingerprint solution is also Entrust(R) compatible, so when used with Labcal’s SmartPKi2(TM), it allows users to store an Entrust certificate and key pairs on a smart card. Key pairs are directly generated in the smart card and private keys never leave the card, even during digital signature. This feature is a must-have for environments where security is paramount, such as in defense and government.

“We recognize Identix’ leadership in fingerprint verification and identification algorithms and are proud to integrate BioEngine’s capabilities in our offerings. Identix(R) BioEngine is a recognized and proven technology incorporating algorithm’s that have been specified for important projects in which Labcal is involved,” said Hugues Gervais, Vice President, Business Development, Labcal Technologies, Inc. “We plan to incorporate the Identix algorithm into our other leading products as well, including a mobile verification device ideally suited for border security and other similar applications.”

Dr. Joseph J. Atick, President and CEO of Identix stated, “BioEngine works to improve network security with fingerprint verification and identification. Labcal’s SmartLogon solution provides their customers with the ability to adopt a system that combines smart cards, biometrics and PKI to address some of their heightened security needs.”
