Social networking behind the corporate firewall increases 500%, creates big vulnerabilities

Goofing off at work has led to a huge security threat. Palo Alto Networks has released figures that points to a 500% increase in social networking behind the firewall, which could possibly lead to network vulnerabilities.

Most social sites use SSL encryption technology which just so happens to be invisible behind most firewalls. IT administrators cannot see the data, therefore they cannot make sure that malicious content is not getting past.


The solution seems easy, block the social networking port which traffic comes in and out on. This, however, is no longer an option because social networking is so vital to business that if they block those ports, they also block out the access to customers and potential business deals.

Web designer and developer Gareth Wright has discovered security vulnerabilities in Facebook’s app for iOS and Android devices, reports MacRumors.com.
